LATERAL Vol. 1:
Exploring the Diversity of Contemporary Art

20 established and emerging artists present projects adjacent to their most representative works in a collective exhibition in Paternal. An initiative by Abril Bellati.

The LATERAL art exhibition is a gathering of artists from diverse disciplines who come together to share works and explore territories adjacent to their most representative creations. This first edition is hosted at Espinosa Estudios in Paternal and marks the beginning of a series of events that will seek to transcend the limits of a traditional art gallery.

LATERAL is an initiative by Abril Bellati, who invites us to enter a universe where singularity and creativity reign. Recognized for her career in costume design, she now surprises us with her foray into the art world through her first curatorial project. Her approach, encapsulated in the name of the project, is summed up in her proposal to the artists: “I would like you to show me what you do, but not your known work, one of your lateral projects”.

There are sculptures, photographs, video art, art objects, jewelry, paintings, and other works specially conceived for this exhibition. In her selection, there are recognized artists, others she will introduce, and others she simply admires. She is not against anything but in favor of everything.

Bellati celebrates the multiplicity of voices in the art world: the essence of LATERAL is its eclectic approach. Personal and artistic connections intertwine, friendship and love for art merge to bring her fulfilled dream to life.
